MILPITAS, Calif., July 7 – Maxtor Corporation (NYSE: MXO) announced today that it will demonstrate the functionality of the
LSI Logic and Maxtor’s demonstration highlights the companies’ achievements in initializing, completing out of band sequencing, and executing SCSI read, write and compare commands across the interface. The two companies are founding members of the Serial Attached SCSI Working Group that developed the initial concepts used in drafting the SAS specification.
“The exchange of data between SAS interfaces developed by these two leaders represents a significant step forward in the development of the SAS interface,” said Joe DeRosa, senior director of marketing for Maxtor’s Server Products Group. “Maxtor is committed to ensuring compatibility of the SAS interface by working with technology leaders like LSI Logic during the development process to ensure component interoperability.”
SAS is the next generation of the SCSI interface. It has been developed to improve storage system performance, scalability, and availability while providing compatibility with high-capacity Serial ATA (SATA) drives and dual port, high performance SAS drives.
“Last month, LSI Logic and Maxtor announced our commitment to work together to ensure compatibility between our SAS products,” said Robin Wagner, director of marketing for LSI Logic Storage Standard Products division. “This demonstration is proof that Maxtor and LSI Logic are delivering on that commitment.”
The T10 Committee is a public standards body sanctioned by ANSI that is responsible for the development and maintenance of the SCSI standards. In May, the T10 committee voted unanimously to forward the SAS specification to ANSI for public review. Publication of the SAS ANSI standard is expected to occur later this summer.
